'The Other Side' by Astrid Scholar

With the dawning of the sun

Comes remembrance.

Desire,

To reach for Icarus,

Burn through this opaque parapet

Of greying memories,

Pealing and foul.

Once spoken to a priest

From lips parched,

of truth.

Lingering and lost to the wind.

Still we gaze beyond,

Towards a sky of sublimity,

Defiant against the stench

Of age, slouched in senile lungs

A singularity escorts me

One step forward,

Towards dolor.

A downpour.

past pain against the cool of a babes corporeal form,

Hunting,

For the hidden truth

Lying dormant within

The sky casts out its line

To lift my chin,

A reason to persist.

Beyond the horizon

A virgin thought,

A chrysalis- a shifting of old flesh

Commanding space,

To breathe.

Harnessing the turn of the tide

Poseidon’s reins clutched tight,

Ready to retrieve the new.

For I know,

there are true wonders ahead

Elucidated, made possible,

by the sky in my head.
